Pinch A Palooza is a crawfish celebration and party during "Louisiana Crawfish Awareness Month" and a philanthropic event that supports and raises awareness of local charitable causes and organizations. Deanie's Seafood's Bucktown Philanthropic Trust has donated more than $20,000 through Deanie's Pinch A Palooza initiatives since the event's founding in 2010.

This year, Pinch A Palooza will support Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency, better known as LOPA, the non-profit charged with educating the public about organ and tissue donation, maintaining the state donor registry and overseeing the donation process in Louisiana.

April is National Donate Life Month (NDLM), which was instituted by Donate Life America and its partnering organizations in 2003. NDLM features an entire month of local, regional and national activities to help encourage Americans to register as donors and to celebrate those that have saved lives through the gift of donation. Currently, 54 percent of the U.S. adult population are registered organ, eye and tissue donors, and 67 percent in Louisiana. Yet the number of people in need of transplants continues to outpace the number of organs donated. More than 119,000 people are waiting for a transplant and a second chance at life.

LOPA encourages people to participate in its Blue & Green Day by wearing blue and green and joining activities held in the community to bring attention to donation and transplantation. Donate Life America holds a photo contest on Facebook, so get creative with the blue and green – your food, your pets, your babies – and send in your best photos to Facebook.com/DonateLife. Also, check out LOPA’s calendar of events for a complete listing of all the Donate Life activities going on throughout the state, and follow them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/DonateLifeLa.

Past Pinch A Palooza recipients include the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation, Louisiana Cultural Economy Foundation, NOCCA - New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, Ronald McDonald House, St. Louis King of France School, Angel's Place of New Orleans and the 610 Stompers Foundation, which supports a variety of charitable organizations each year. The 610 Stompers are participating for the sixth year at Pinch A Palooza 2017.
